Energy efficiency and renewable energy grants available to Welsh households — Welsh Government schemes and UK government programmes.
Welsh Government
Welsh Government's flagship energy efficiency scheme providing free improvements for eligible households.
Area-based energy efficiency programme targeting communities across Wales with external wall insulation and renewables.
Interest-free loans for energy efficiency and renewable energy improvements for Welsh homeowners.
UK government
Energy efficiency improvements funded by the large energy suppliers, available across Wales. Often fully funded, but this is not a grant scheme and some households are asked to contribute — worth comparing offers.
Government grants for air source, ground source and air-to-air heat pumps, and biomass boilers, open in England and Wales. Applications close 31 December 2029.
Welsh councils can refer vulnerable households for additional support through flexible eligibility (ECO Flex). The Warm Homes: Local Grant is not part of this — it runs in England only, and a Welsh council cannot refer you into it.

One matched certified installer. Never a list. No obligation.
North Wales
There is no separate rural scheme or rural allocation. Nest applies the same test in Gwynedd, Anglesey, Conwy and Denbighshire as everywhere else in Wales — you must own or privately rent your home, receive a means-tested benefit or live on a low household income, and have a low EPC rating — whether you are on the gas grid or off it.
All Welsh Government schemes offer full Welsh language support and bilingual documentation.
Special provisions for holiday accommodation and tourism businesses in coastal areas.
South Wales
Targeted investment in former mining communities, including Arbed programmes. Nest is demand-led and applies the same eligibility test everywhere in Wales — there is no separate Valleys allocation.
Large-scale district heating projects in Cardiff, Swansea, and Newport with government backing.
Support for businesses and communities near major industrial sites transitioning to clean energy.
Contact Nest free on 0808 808 2244, or request a callback at gethomeenergyadvice.service.gov.wales. Nest decides who qualifies for the Welsh schemes, not this site.
Welsh Government schemes often provide better coverage than UK government programmes for eligible households.
Qualified assessors will survey your property and recommend the most suitable improvements.
Under the Welsh Government schemes the work is free to eligible households. ECO4 is not a grant scheme — a supplier may ask you to contribute, and being eligible does not mean a supplier will install.

There is no central government application — go to any obligated supplier (not only your own), a TrustMark-registered installer, or your council for ECO4 Flex.
Nest delivered free home improvements, including central heating systems, boilers, insulation, solar panels and air source heat pumps, to 1,437 Welsh households in 2025–26. That is a provisional Welsh Government figure, published in August 2026 in freedom of information release ATISN 27236. For solar on its own — Nest, 0% VAT and export payments — see solar panel grants in Wales; for heat pumps, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme beside Nest, see heat pump grants in Wales; for loft and wall insulation, see insulation grants in Wales.
Wales offers the Nest scheme providing free energy efficiency improvements for eligible households, plus access to the Great Britain-wide ECO4 scheme and the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (England and Wales only) for heat pump installations. ECO4 runs until 31 December 2026 and the installation must be completed by that date; being eligible does not guarantee that a supplier will install measures.
Nest is the Welsh Government's energy efficiency scheme providing free home energy improvements to eligible households in Wales. It is open to Welsh households only. A whole-house assessment decides the package, which can include insulation, a boiler or central heating system, an air source heat pump, rooftop solar panels, battery storage, and windows and doors, alongside energy advice.
Yes, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme providing £7,500 grants for air source and ground source heat pump installations (£9,000 off the gas grid when replacing oil or LPG, for applications made by 31 March 2027; £2,500 for an air-to-air heat pump once installers are certified for it) is available in both England and Wales. Welsh households may also qualify for ECO4, or for Nest, the Welsh Government scheme open to owner-occupiers and private tenants in Wales only. Each has its own eligibility test, and eligibility is decided by the scheme rather than by this site. ECO4 runs until 31 December 2026 and the installation must be completed by that date.
Ends 31 December 2026
